A viral message circulating on November 30, 2023, across various OAU student social media platforms claims that the university senate has approved an extended break for both freshers and stalites.
The break is scheduled to begin on December 15, 2023, and end on January 8, 2024.
While the university has not yet officially confirmed the break, there is a strong possibility that it will be approved. The reason for the extended break is to accommodate participants in the West African University Games, who will be staying in the school halls of residence.
The news of the extended break has been met with mixed reactions from students, some of whom viewed it through the following lenses:
1. It gives an avenue to catch up on all that has been taught so far since the beginning of the semester.
2. It provides some students an opportunity to “hustle,” as their education is partly or totally self sponsored.
Regardless of their individual opinions, all students are aware that the extended break will cause some delay in the completion of the semester, and hence, the whole session.
The university administration is however expected to release a revised academic calendar in the near future.
