Oratory contest: The Great Ife Illuminates.

Once again, the sun robed the sky in a glistering raiment, and the atmosphere was peaceful as usual. Being called upon by Muslim students' Society of Nigeria, Adeyemi Federal University of Education Branch, in celebration of her annual Jihad Week, representatives of MSSNOAU, in their usual greatness, once again honoured the call and graced a symposium of Muslim student orators from different higher institutions. The event, held at Twin B Hall, had VIPs on seats. Some of whom include: the Chief Imam, AFUED (Dr. S.S. Zubair); the chairman of the Muslim community, Dr. Oloyede; Prof. I.O. Uthman of Dept. of Arabic and Islamic studies, University of Ibadan; the Ameer, Ondo State Federal Council; the Naibul-Ameer, Ondo state Area Unit; the General Secretary, Ondo State Council, Mallam Amin; the chairman of Islamic model schools, Mr. shaafi; and others. The event took off at exactly 11:50 a.m. with a recitation from the Holy Quran by one of the AFUED brothers present, followed by a soul inspiring lecture premised on COURTESY AND MODESTY TOWARDS THE MUSLIM BELIEVERS, by Prof. I.O. Uthman (Dept. of Arabic and Islamic studies, University of Ibadan). After the lecture, questions were thrown to the lecturers, and appropriate answers were provided. Mid-day prayer was pronounced by 1:22 p.m. The hall was refurbished again with all heads seated some minutes after. Finally, the microphone sound waves reverberated across the atmosphere of the large hall, resuming back into action, with "an address" from an erudite scholar, in the person of Dr. Adeyemo (one of the chairpersons). Afterwards, a Qoseedah (Arabic poem) was sung by two brothers—members of AFUED MSSN. Giveaway session also showed its beautiful face (as it should be). Then, to the main event of the day– intervarsity debate competition. The institutions present were: Obafemi Awolowo University, Federal University of technology Akure, and the host school—Adeyemi Federal university of Education. After nothing less than two hours had been spent in the debate ring, the panel of judges deliberated extensively on the bearers of the trophies. And after the interlocution, the below announcement was made: FUTA took the lead with 81 points; OAU emerged second with 80 points; AFUED bagged the third position with 66 points. Though being unsatisfied with the outcome, we deemed it a decision we couldn't fight; the unanimity of the judges must be followed without any exchange of foul words. So, we once again displayed our greatness. It was indeed a great pleasure to be recognized and called to engage in such a powerful discussion; hence, our sincerest appreciation goes to MSSNAFUED, and our brethren from other institutions. And it's said that: "It'll be unwise not to recognize yourself when you're alive." Withal, we appreciate our colleagues from the GREAT IFE, who out of their limited time, deemed it important to contribute towards the fulfillment of this obligation. It should be noted that MSSNOAU was represented by a 500 level law student, Bro. Opatola Peter Abdulhameed, and a 300 level Mathematics student, Sis. Sarumi Islamiyyah. We pray Almighty Allah continues to bless them. Aameen. The Great Ife Illuminates!
