LIFE IS LIKE A FUNCTIONAL WHATSAPP GROUP by Barokah Abubakr (The Doctor of Language)

I do not know if you have ever thought about this—the similarities between a WhatsApp group and life.

Everyone, no matter how inactive they may be on social media, is likely part of one or two active WhatsApp groups. These could be school, community, professional, educational, or entertainment groups.

In these groups, people leave and others join, and that is exactly how life works. People die and exit the world, and others are born into it. It is a continuous cycle.

Two people may leave a group in one day while ten others join, and vice versa. The same analogy applies to life: sometimes, more people leave this world than those who join, and sometimes, it is the opposite.

Just as people silently leave a WhatsApp group without affecting 99.9% of its members, that is how your departure from this life will be.

The same way a WhatsApp group remains active, lively, and functional after a very active member exits, without anyone’s livelihood being affected, without anyone’s joy disappearing, and without a dime taken from anyone’s pocket, is the same way the world will carry on after you are gone, no matter who you are or what you have.

This shows how insignificant we can be, even in a group of just 1,025 people, let alone in life where billions live, walk, sleep, and wake. Our presence or absence changes nothing.

Life is like a functional WhatsApp group where your exit does not impede others’ existence, and your absence does not stop others’ essence. If our non-existence does not shake a small online group, how much more in this vast world?

Whether we breathe or not, life continues. The moon keeps rotating. That is why we must see ourselves as nothing but servants of our Creator (Allah), stay humble, treat others with kindness, and never elevate ourselves above the One who gave us life.

In the end, we are nothing but atoms of dust scattered into the air.
