An Extra Chance

I have eaten every tablet of endurance,
Drunk every morsel of perseverance,
Breathed every wrap of liveliness,
Yet I have not uttered that dime of gratitude.

I am subdued by every propellant,
Eating and beating through the vicissitudes,
Not of life, but this journey of retribution,
Thinking and hoping to please my Master.

I am down on my knees, wiping,
Crying my heart out, for I fear for my account.
It is a mess—from the first page right till now.
What a mess! What lowliness! What a misstep!

I have been given yet another grace, another chance,
To save what remains of these extras, to build for me
A legacy, a heritage of piety and submission to HIM.
How I pray I am guided—by HIS grace and mercy abounding.
