Academic Spotlight Interview With Raji Mazeedah

Academic success is often built on consistency, resilience, and a willingness to keep learning. For Raji Mazeedah, a Part II Law student, these qualities have played a significant role in shaping her journey. Beyond the lecture halls, she has distinguished herself as a passionate speaker and debater, actively representing herself in competitions within and beyond her faculty.

In this edition of Academic Spotlight, Mazeedah shares insights into her academic journey, the challenges she has overcome, the study habits that have contributed to her success, and the lessons she believes every student should embrace in pursuit of excellence.

Q1. Looking back on your academic journey, what would you say has been the biggest contributor to your success?

Mazeedah:
I would say Almighty Allah first, followed by my dedication and commitment to my studies. I put a lot of effort into my academics and take them very seriously. Whenever I encounter a difficult concept, I am willing to go the extra mile to understand it thoroughly.

Q2. What challenges have you faced in your academic journey, and how did you overcome them?

Mazeedah:
One challenge I have faced is understanding topics that require extensive reading. To overcome this, I make use of AI tools to simplify concepts after I have read them multiple times. I also consult textbooks to gain a deeper understanding.

Another challenge is retaining and recalling information. I do not memorize things easily, so I overcome this by reading repeatedly and then writing down everything I can remember. Before examinations, I also use AI tools to reinforce my understanding and avoid getting stuck during exams.

Q3. What study habits, routines, or strategies have helped you maintain academic excellence?

Mazeedah:
One habit that has helped me greatly is reviewing whatever was taught in class during the day before going to sleep. I also make sure I never attend lectures unprepared; I always try to have an idea of the topic that will be discussed beforehand.

In addition, I prefer studying at night and often read ahead of the class by covering new topics before they are taught.

Q4. If you had the opportunity to advise younger students aspiring to excel academically, what three pieces of advice would you give them?

Mazeedah:

1. Involve Almighty Allah in everything you do.

2. Know yourself.
Understand your strengths, weaknesses, and learning style instead of trying to copy other people’s methods or lifestyles.

3. Read hard and study smart.
As a student, your academics should remain your top priority.

Q5. One word that best describes your academic journey?

Mazeedah:
Stressful.

Q6. What is one book, quote, or lesson that has significantly influenced your life

Mazeedah:
Never postpone exam preparation, and never walk into an examination hall without being adequately prepared.
