A Journey of Achievements: Interview with Rosheedah Adebisi

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa rahmotuLlāh wa barakātuH. We hope everyone is as fit as a fiddle. We again invite you to join us as we feed on another delicious meal cooked by an OAU scholar and fresh graduate.

In this episode with Kolawole Zaynab, another of our scholars, Miss Rosheedah Adebisi, the pronounced Department of Physics and Engineering Physics Best Graduating Student during the last Convocation, walks us into a captivating dialogue filled with achievements, challenges, and the pursuit of knowledge.

An-Nur: Can you introduce yourself, ma?

Miss Rosheedah: I’m Rosheedah Omolara ADEBISI.

An-Nuur: Do you have a nickname?

Miss Rosheedah: Mummymotion.

An-Nuur: First, this might sound awkward, but why Science and not Art or Commercial?

Miss Rosheedah: The choice was made during my secondary school days, when I used to say: I want to become a medical doctor .🤓

An-Nuur: What was your discipline in the university?

Miss Rosheedah: Physics.

An-Nuur: But why not medicine, since you used to say, back then in secondary school, that you wanted to become a medical doctor?

Miss Rosheedah: Almost every secondary school student says that, but when life happens, we will find ourselves elsewhere. The problem usually starts when WAEC and JAMB start showing you shege.🤓

An-Nuur: Why did you study physics then?

Miss Rosheedah: Hmm, that’s a long story. It took me years to fall in love with Physics.

An-Nuur: I would like to know the story, summary actually, if you don’t mind sharing. It may motivate someone, who knows?

Miss Rosheedah: During my secondary school days, I didn’t have any preferred subject until I gained admission into EACOED to study Computer and Physics. From there, I started falling in love with Physics.

An-Nuur: Wow, it’s nice to know you already have an NCE certificate. And, please, what is EACOED ?

Miss Rosheedah: Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, Oyo.

An-Nuur: So, you gained admission into OAU through Direct Entry?

Miss Rosheedah: No, I sat another UTME.

An-Nuur: Wow, I love your zest for knowledge. That must be really a great and challenging decision.

Miss Rosheedah: Yes, it was, but I decided to do that because I wished I could stand as a pure physicist and trained teacher.

An-Nuur: That means you were also inducted as a certified teacher by TRCN?

Miss Rosheedah: Yes, ma.

An-Nuur: Were there any other things you engaged in apart from being a student as an undergraduate?

Miss Rosheedah: I learnt tailoring before gaining admission into OAU but never practiced it on campus. I only got to do that during the holidays.

An-Nuur: So, are you confident in your fashion designing skill, ma?

Miss Rosheedah: Yes, ma.

An-Nuur: Barakallahu Feek, ma! Did you participate in any extra curricular activities as an undergraduate?

Miss Rosheedah: Yes, but partially, until I was in my final year; then I became not just a staunch member of MSSN, but also the Female Welfare Officer of the society.

An-Nuur: How were you able to manage those extra curricular activities with your studies?

Miss Rosheedah: One of the things I do is that I never joked with my classes. I always would make sure at least 50-60% of whatever was being taught was understood before leaving the class; otherwise, I would run to my colleagues immediately.

An-Nuur: Good!And? What else, ma?

Miss Rosheedah: I did a lot of reading, too. My colleagues knew that my heart was so much connected to the library. Also, I wouldn’t leave any work until I could convince myself I understood it.

An-Nuur: Good, thank you, ma. Did you have a reading partner or you enjoyed reading alone?

Miss Rosheedah: I am someone who likes reading alone when at the initial stage of studying. But later, when I think I have got a glimpse of what I’ve read, I love to go into discussions with my friends. And this, as you could see, really worked for me while at OAU.

An-Nuur: That’s nice, ma. Did you at anytime suspect that you would become the Best Graduating Student?

Miss Rosheedah: Yes and No.

An-Nuur: I was expecting to get a positive response, though. But, would you please tell us why you responded with “YES and NO”?

Miss Rosheedah: Because results could not be predicted, knowing I was studying at OAU. And besides, I believe(d) in the saying: Man proposes, God disposes. However, my colleagues used to play with it ever since the department disclosed every student’s CGPA and mine was found to be the highest. This was in my second year, and since then, I have started putting more effort so my CGPA wouldn’t go down.

An-Nuur: That’s funny, but hardwork really pays.

Miss Rosheedah: It’s funny and yes, hardwork does pay.

An-Nuur: What is your state of origin, ma?

Miss Rosheedah: Oyo.

An-Nuur: Would you mind letting us know your relationship status?

Miss Rosheedah: I’m single.

An-Nuur: Ma shā Allāh! May Allāh bless you with the right spouse.

Miss Rosheedah: Aameen.

An-Nuur: What are your hobbies?

Miss Rosheedah: Chatting, eating and sewing.

An-Nuur: Eating? Would you mind sharing your favourite meal with us?

Miss Rosheedah: Yes, I love all stodges except Eba.

An-Nuur: I love your preference for African dishes. What do you do now? Teaching? Fashion designing? Or both?

Miss Rosheedah: Both, but currently serving in Lagos.

An-Nuur: Was OAU your preferred institution from the start?

Miss Rosheedah: Yes.

An-Nuur: Wow, any reasons?

Miss Rosheedah: Almost all my brothers and sisters graduated from there.

An-Nuur: Wow, that’s amazing! Barakallahu feehi! Did MSSN play any role in your academic pursuit?

Miss Rosheedah: Yes, with her continuous educating lectures.

An-Nuur: That means you never regretted being part of MSSNOAU?

Miss Rosheedah: I never did. Like I said earlier, I was the Female Welfare Officer for the year 21/22, which was also my last year on campus, and that was when I had the highest GPA of 5.0, and this put my feet on the rostrum of the Best Graduating Student of my department, with a CGPA of 4.53. AlhamduliLlāh.

An-Nuur: Wow, Ma shā Allāh! We are proud of you. Do you have any word(s) for MSSN OAU?

Miss Rosheedah: MSSNOAU is the best and should keep being the best.

An-Nuur: Ma shā Allāh!JazākumuLlāhu khayran! Do you intend going further in your education?

Miss Rosheedah: Yes, after NYSC service.

An-Nuur: Ma shā Allāh!May Allah make it easy!

Miss Rosheedah: Aameen. May Allāh make it easy for everyone of us.

An-Nuur: Aameen. If not physics, what other course would you have studied?

Miss Rosheedah: Software engineering.

An-Nuur: What would be your advice for every student who wishes to graduate with a First Class?

Miss Rosheedah: Determination, Work and Prayer is the key. Take note and never joke with any of the three!

An-Nuur: Ma shā Allāh!Thanks for your time, ma. It’s great having you here.

Miss Rosheedah: It’s my pleasure, ma.
